After Thomas passed away, his Aunt Beth immediately approached Buddy and me about a project she wanted to organize in memory of Thomas. Beth is an elementary school teacher and is very passionate about reading books and teaching children how to read. She had a vision that would give the opportunity for Thomas’ story to be told for generations to come. At the time, she was a teacher at Margaret Elementary School in Margaret, Ala. She spoke with the principal and library media specialist about collecting monetary donations in memory of Thomas to be given to the school’s library to purchase new books and educational resources. They were thankful and supportive so Beth instantly began promoting the book donation project.
We are excited to announce that gifts given to the library in memory of Thomas totaled $2,785! Hundreds of books and other resources were purchased and students are already enjoying them. Inside every book, DVD, packet, etc. is a label (see pictures) that reads, “This book is donated in memory of Thomas Alexander Lambert V – May 22, 2014 – December 5, 2014.” It also includes his picture as well as the following Bible verse: “I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.” Psalm 139:14
This opens up an incredible opportunity for Beth, the library media specialist and other teachers to tell students about Thomas when they see the label and ask about him. We couldn’t be more grateful that Thomas will continue to impact lives for many years to come all because his sweet aunt had such an amazing vision. We look forward to hearing about all the stories that come from this project. We would like to thank Beth and Margaret Elementary School for seeing this dream to fruition. We would also like to thank all those who supported this mission and gave monetarily. None of this would be possible without all parties involved, and as Thomas’ parents, we are truly thankful for you all! We hope you will take time to view the pictures from this project HERE.
